aSeuss! Program
- the After-School Elfhood UnSchool Show…
Time & Duration: for 2 hours after regular school (approximately 4pm -6pm) Thursdays. Beginning February, 2012, near Minden, Ontario.
Ages: 5 -12. We will consider younger children – please inquire. Older children see LIT program.
Numbers: We require a minimum of two children to offer this program.
Cost: to be determined
Description: This after school program centers around story-telling as a base or foundation for a whole host of other activities. From a central myth or story we will branch out into related activities inspired by the story, including drama, acting, song-making, music-making, chanting & singing, poetry & spoken word, outdoor investigations, nature immersion, hikes, treefort building (spring & summer & fall), games, arts and crafts, yoga, self-inquiry, and other related endeavors, projects, creations and pursuits.
Miscellaneous: Please send your child with a snack. If you would like us to provide an organic whole-foods snack, we would be happy to do so for a small extra fee, please let us know upon registration. Consider carpool or school-busing your child here directly after school from Minden or Haliburton.
LIT program – Leader In Training
Time & Duration: for 3 hours after regular school (approximately 4pm -7pm) Thursdays. Beginning February, 2012 near Minden, Ontario.
Ages: 13 and up to any age. Interview required. We will consider very mature 12 yr olds, please inquire.
Numbers: maximum 3 people and minimum 2 people will be in the initial offering of this program – we will be expanding next spring and summer but can currently work only with small student-teacher ratios.
Cost: to be determined
Description: This after school program will be run in conjunction with our aSuess! program. Leaders in Training will assist in running, directing and leading the aSuess! program, while first receiving training and experience in working/playing with children in open-ending, wonder-creating ways. They will stay for 1 hour after the younger children go home for debriefing and educational / leadership theory. Leaders will learn at their pace and be encouraged to lead their own creative activities and games, with as much support as they need. The theory part of the day will be used to examine the nature of working with children and leading others – how they can become life-long leaders, addressing their skills and strengthening their abilities in all areas.
Training will include the following areas: leadership styles, personal growth, counselling techniques, group process and conflict mediation, teaching techniques, games and activity planning, with a large focus on developing emotional intelligence and emotional coherence, which will assist them in any field of endeavor.
